Tyler is a city in and the county seat of Smith County, Texas, United States. This city had a population of 96,900 in 2010, according to the United States Census Bureau. Tyler's 2014 estimated population is 107,405. It is 100 miles (160 km) east-southeast of Dallas. Tyler is the principal city of the Tyler Metropolitan Statistical Area, with a population of 209,714 in 2010, and the regional center of the Tyler-Jacksonville combined statistical area, with a population of 260,559 in 2010.Tyler has the nickname "Rose Capital of America". It gained this name due to the large quantity of roses processed through the area, along with hosting America's largest rose garden. The city and its Arkansas counterpart form the core of the Texarkana Metropolitan Statistical Area, encompassing all of Bowie County, Texas, and Miller County, Arkansas. The two cities had a combined population of 66,330 at the 2010 census, and the metropolitan area had a total population of 136,027.
