The caller from this number claimed to be a Major from the Hamilton County Sheriff's department in Ohio; stated I had an urgent matter that needed my attention and to call him back right away. He said I had 2 citations for failure to appear for jury duty. I told him I never received any notification to appear; he said he has 2 certified mail receipts signed by me and stated my home address. Said I needed to go up to the headquarters of said sheriff's office (which is a legit sheriff's office); and to call him when I was on my way; in order to produce my drivers license and make a few handwriting samples to either confirm my handwriting or dispute it; said if it's clear it's not my signature the 2 citations would be dropped; if it appears to be a match, I would not be arrested on the spot, but rather would be assigned another date to appear in court. I immediately went to my local sheriff's office and while they've not heard of this "scam" before, they assured me it is a scam as they know that Major and assured me the local sheriff's office, especially a Major does not call residents on jury duty assignments.
